Dr. Mervin R. Smucker also co-wrote “Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A New Algorithm Treatment Model” in Overcoming Roadblocks in Cognitive Therapy Practice and “When Prolonged Exposure Fails: Adding an Imagery-Based Cognitive Restructuring Component in the Treatment of Industrial Accident Victims Suffering from PTSD” in Cognitive and Behavioral Practice. A psychologist, consultant, and trainer, Dr. Mervin R. Smucker earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Foreign Languages at Antioch College in Ohio and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Millersville University in Pennsylvania. He also studied at Goethe-Institut and the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen in Germany as well as the Centre de Linguistique Appliquée de Besançon in France and the Vrije Universiteit Brussels in Belgium. After completing a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at The Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Mervin R. Smucker joined the Center for Cognitive Therapy in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania as a Postdoctoral Fellow. He later became Director of Education and Clinic Training at the Center before assuming the position of Clinical Associate Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry. While practicing as a clinical psychologist at Milwaukee Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Mervin R. Smucker also founded and directed the Cognitive Therapy Institute of Milwaukee. Through the Institute, Dr. Mervin R. Smucker directed specialized clinical training and educational programs for therapists in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and trauma therapy. Subsequently, at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Dr. Mervin R. Smucker became Clinical Director of the Trauma Treatment Program in the Department of Behavioral Medicine. Before devoting himself full-time to his consulting practice, Dr. Mervin R. Smucker served as Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin for over 15 years.
