About Melissa McGuire
Melissa McGuire serves as a staff member at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Institute for Tuberculosis Research. Managing and designing marketing material for public outreach programs, Chicago resident Melissa McGuire creates, reviews, and approves written and visual material for electronic and print copy. Over the course of her tenure with the Institute for Tuberculosis Research, Melissa McGuire has procured media coverage of the College of Pharmacy’s Healthy Living in the City Garden Walk, managed the pre-production content and scheduling for a 2011 fund-raising campaign, and coordinated the Science Chicago community event.
Involved with the development process for the institute’s new website, Melissa McGuire supervised the concept creation prior to its launch, approving written and graphic designs generated for print and electronic copy. She also assembled a multimedia package intended for nationwide distribution and participated in authoring some of the website’s content. In addition to spearheading content production activities, Melissa McGuire promotes the institute’s events and programs through partnerships with local Chicago businesses, media outlets, and educational organizations.
An alumnus of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Melissa McGuire earned her Master of Social Work with an emphasis on Community Development. Upon returning to her alma mater to work for the Institute for Tuberculosis Research, she resumed scholarly activities through collaboration on articles such as “Constructing Nonviolent Cultures in Schools: The State of the Science” and “Behavioral strategies for constructing nonviolent cultures with youth: a review.”

Implemented the use of 37Signals cloud computing technology within the Institute for Tuberculosis Research at UIC to increase efficiency and effectiveness of communications in managing multiple projects. Managed the pre-production schedule and content of a promotional documentary series on The Institute for Tuberculosis Research at UIC to be used as a marketing and fundraising tool in 2011. Managed and designed marketing and promotions for various public outreach programs. Created and distributed media alerts as well as tracked press clippings. Approved written material and graphic designs for execution of both electronic and print copy. Managed the design concept and content development of new web site launch for the Institute for Tuberculosis Research at the College of Pharmacy. Developed partnerships with other educational organizations and local businesses for hosting and promoting events for the public. Also, responsible for logistics for public events. Generated earned media coverage for University of Illinois College of Pharmacy 's "Healthy Living in the City" 2009 Garden Walk with local media coverage.
