About Matt Vasgersian
Matt Vasgersian is lead announcer for the Major League Baseball Network. Matt Vasgersian signed on with the network in 2009, following a 7-year stint in play-by-play announcing for the San Diego Padres.
Prior to his time with the Padres, Matt Vasgersian covered the Milwaukee Brewers, a post he accepted in 1997 after working as a minor league play-by-play man for six years.
Though Matt Vasgersian is currently one of baseball’s most recognizable sportscasters, he has also worked extensively in football, calling both NFL and college action. For four seasons Matt Vasgersian handled weekly duties on FOX NFL telecasts, and called BCS Bowl Games on Fox between 2007 and 2009.
Other accomplishments for Matt Vasgersian include stints covering three different Olympic Games. In 2006, NBC selected Matt Vasgersian for coverage of ski jumping in Torino, and Matt Vasgersian was also present for the Games in Athens and Beijing. In addition, Matt Vasgersian has been the lead voice of Sony Playstation’s “MLB The Show” franchise since 2005.
Matt Vasgersian made his entrée into sportscasting after earning his degree at the University of Southern California, where he was a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. At the moment, Matt Vasgersian expresses his interest in helping others by hosting a celebrity benefit poker tournament. In past years, the San Diego Fallen Officers Fund and Tender Loving Canines have received generous contributions from Matt Vasgersian.
