Matt Vasgersian - Professional Summary:
For seven years, Matt Vasgersian worked as lead announcer for the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball team. During his time with the Padres' organization, Matt Vasgersian also called games as a regular play-by-play announcer with "FOX Saturday Baseball." Prior to coming to San Diego Padres, Matt Vasgersian served in the same capacity with the Milwaukee Brewers from 1997 to 2001. Matt Vasgersian's considerable success in these endeavors led to his most recent position as the anchor of the MLB Network's flagship television program, "MLB Tonight." As the first anchor hired, Matt Vasgersian debuted with the MLB Network soon after the channel's record-breaking launch in January 2009. Currently, Matt Vasgersian's broadcasts reach 50 million homes across the United States. In addition to baseball Matt Vasgersian spent five seasons covering the NFL as a regular play-by-play man with "FOX NFL Sunday". Matt Vasgersian's football work was recognized in the role he played on Fox Sports BCS coverage as he was one of just three play-by-play men to be awarded a prestigious game. Matt Vasgersian called the FedEx Orange Bowl in 2007 and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl in both 2008 and 2009. Matt Vasgersian has served as a host and play-by-play announcer for NBC Sports during its coverage of the last three Olympic Games. Matt Vasgersian utilized his broadcasting talents at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino and at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, and he shared coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing from New York City's Rockefeller Center. Matt Vasgersian has leveraged his success in sports broadcasting toward fundraising for numerous worthwhile causes. For the last two years, Matt Vasgersian has hosted a Texas Hold 'Em charity poker tournament. The proceeds from last year's tournament went to support two organizations: the San Diego Fallen Officers Fund and Tender Loving Canines. Drawing a pool of more than 300 poker players, including many celebrities and well-known sports personalities, Matt Vasgersian's annual poker tournament has raised tens of thousands of dollars for charitable causes.
