Matthias Wholley - Professional Summary: A 2002 graduate of the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), Matthias Wholley most recently served as an Admissions Officer at the institution’s New London, Connecticut, campus, a role he maintained from July 2011 to March 2012. Holding the rank of Lieutenant, Mr. Wholley applied his extensive understanding of USCGA academic standards to recruit highly qualified students from across the country, collaborating with potential enrollees and their families throughout the application process. Along with guiding young Coast Guard hopefuls as they laid a solid foundation for a future with the government agency, Matthias Wholley reviewed applications in partnership with the USCGA Admissions Committee.
Prior to accepting his post at the USCGA, Matthias Wholley acted as Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) Anacapa, a 110-foot patrol boat with its home port in Petersburg, Alaska. Leading search and rescue operations, law enforcement patrols, and homeland security checks in the state’s remote southeast region, Mr. Wholley leveraged his wide-ranging supervisory experience to ensure maximum success for every mission in which he participated.
Aside from his accomplishments aboard the CGC Anacapa, Matthias Wholley functioned as an Operations Officer with the crew of the CGC Spencer and as a Command Duty Officer at the First Coast Guard District Command Center in Boston. Mr. Wholley stood challenging 24-hour watches on a regular basis in this latter post, utilizing his comprehensive training to direct Coast Guard activities from the Canadian Border to New Jersey’s Shrewsbury River. Mr. Wholley’s tenure with the United States Coast Guard also included a productive engagement as a Patrol Boat Manager and First Lieutenant on the CGC Campbell, a medium-endurance vessel. For his years of dedicated service, Matthias Wholley was awarded a Coast Guard Commendation Medal, a Coast Guard Achievement Medal, and a Coast Guard Letter of Commendation.
