About Maryam Maddahi
Maryam Maddahi - Professional Summary:
I Am A Chemical Process Engineer.
Many people who look at my career pathway are surprised, as people do not usually take such a risk and challenge for better. I pushed beyond ordinary limits and my comfort zone to do something new and I appreciate people who don't rest to easy solutions. Although most of my friends told me not to leave a job for studying a new subject, in which I was competing people with chemical engineering work and education background, I am very proud of myself to be a top student among them.
I got interested in oil and gas industry since I was working in Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery (MEOR) in oil carbonated reservoirs for PetroWare Pars as a research assistant which was aimed in using bacteria to digest and so cut the heavy oils.
I've found myself interested and talented in gas reservoir engineering and process plant engineering subjects in particular and that was one of the reasons that I did my design project on LNG plant for which I achieved an 81% mark.
I found the area of flow assurance and integrated production modelling very challenging and have been expanding my flow assurance knowledge by completing variable courses mostly provided by SPT (OLGA), SUT (a couple of subsea courses) and SPE (various seminars).These are the areas which I like to build my career on.
Since graduation I have worked at university as researcher in designing nano-polymers for targeted drug delivery to the brain cells. I have been given the opportunity to join the group as PhD student on top-up scholarship to further advancing the design and simulation work.
I think my diverse background gives me the ability to work in multidisciplinary and challenging environments.

Working with professor Ralph Martins as a world leader of research into Alzheimer’s disease and the WA Australian of the year 2010, is one of my work experiences, which I really am proud of.
At the same time, I was working at Edith Cowan University where I met associate .professor Marcia Taylor who has been one of my best mentors in the way of following my real interests and strengths. As the director of the office of research and innovation, Marcia has a key role in building the University's research profile, establishing strategic partnerships, identification and development of research opportunities and facilitating commercialization.
My duties as a human genetics/molecular biology research assistant involved assisting researchers including Post-Doctoral, PhD students and their supervisors to:
• Prepare materials for research experiments and labeling.
• Perform genetics laboratory research activities and experiments;
• Record and analyze results and present data or information from experiments
• Literature survey and review and Reporting
Good laboratory skills, team working, critical thinking, understanding the protocols and machinery operating manuals, time and resource management, coordination and creativity are essential skills of this of job.
July 2004 - April 2006
PetroWare Pars E.C. Ltd.
Research Assistant - Microbiology
PetroWare Pars (PWP) E.C. is a private research company serving international and domestic clients in the Iranian oil and gas market. My duties included:
• A comprehensive research about the effects of non-degradable petrochemical products used in the food industry products packaging on the environment.
• Microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) in oil carbonated reservoirs
VOLUNTARY EXPERIENCE IN AUSTRALIA
May 2006 – October 2006
Volunteer Biomedical Research Assistant
Molecular Immunology laboratory - MRF building
To become more familiar with the atmosphere of research and duties of a researcher in WA, I proudly worked as a volunteer in cancer research center with associate professor Deirdre Coombe, who is the head of molecular immunology group, at the school of biomedical sciences at Curtin University of Technology. My duties included;
• Preparing Cell Media Culture
• Cell Culture and Infecting Cells with Special Treated Viruses used in Cancer Research
• Bacterial Cell Culture and DNA Plasmid Purification (Mini/Maxiprep)
• PCR and Protein Purification (Affinity Chromatography / electrophoresis)
During this period I was in contact with the UWA HIV research centre (MRF building) and did some related studies and literature survey.
