About Mark Weitzman

Mark Weitzman is a professional poker player. He was born on December 7, in Tel Aviv, Israel. He moved to the United States and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He put his education at first place so he completed a degree in Physics at the Brooklyn College. After graduating from the Brooklyn College, he shifted from Brooklyn to California to complete a degree in Physics at Caltech and then moved to the state Washington to get a Ph. D. from George Washington University. Even though he used his many degrees and skills to work as a pension consultant and actuarial consultant, his dream job was to be a theoretical physicist. But he has yet to achieve that particular goal because while he was studying at Caltech for his Ph. D., Mark left college and became a professional poker player.

Weitzman’s first steps in the game were in a card room in California. At the beginning he only played cash games but in 1992 he made his first appearance on a tournament. In May, the same year he took part in the 23rd Annual World Series of Poker Event #12 - WSOP Limit Ace to Five Draw where he finished in 3rd place and took a prize for $22.500. It was his great performance which brought him to the major tournaments every year. In total his results are impressing: he has 10 WSOP caches and 6 final tables.

Mark Weitzman performed very well at the Borgata Poker Open / WPT Event Season 6 Event #12 - WPT No Limit Hold'em Championship where he finished in 4th place and took a check for $380.240. Two months later he participated in the World Poker Finals / WPT Event Season 6 WPT No Limit Hold'em Championship. Mark Weitzman went out 6th and won $189.142.

Mark Weitzman now resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. His favorite poker games are high-limit mixed cash games. He still wants to complete his Ph. D. in Physics. He also desires to become a teacher in New York City and to buy his own plane because he likes being private pilot.
Even though he’s not very comfortable playing in front of TV cameras, Mark Weitzman did well for himself on the World Poker Tour. His total live tournament winnings exceed $900,000.
