Mark Seif is an American attorney and poker player from Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on October 4, 1967 and is known as Mark “The Shark” Seif. He is married to a woman, named Jennifer and has a daughter – Sarah. The two of them are the most important things in his life next to poker. Mark Seif has been devoted to the game ever since he was 7, when he started playing in his parents’ home games.
Many people consider Mark Seif aggressive, mean and even angry, yet his friends always speak of him respectfully and gratefully. Among his closest people, Mark Seif is known as compassionate, helpful, funny and always a good friend. In life, it’s always a good move to support your beliefs and never give them up. That is one of the things that make Mark Seif succeed in the things he does. He not only says what’s right, but also does what’s right. That’s what his friends say about him. And who knows you better than your best friends? Maybe the reason for him being a good person is that Mark Seif knows the difference between the poker table and real life. Many players don’t understand that being deceptive and sneaky in the game is okay, but it is not okay in real life. And Mark Seif says that those things are fine when playing, but when away from the table they are absolutely unnecessary.
Mark Seif worked as a district attorney before, but he had mixed feelings about his job. On one hand, it was very rewarding and he enjoyed helping people, who weren’t guilty. But on the other, sometimes innocence wasn’t the case! Besides he loved playing poker and understood that he could earn bigger prizes. And maybe his training as a lawyer helped Mark Seif gain the qualities one needs to become a good poker player.
Mark Seif began entering live tournaments all the way back in 2000. Even though it was only his first participation, Makr Seif won 1st place at the Pot of Gold Tournament. His luck was not holding back as he kept on entering numerous tournaments and was almost always finishing in the high ranks.It was in the 2nd World Poker Tour in 2002, when he gained widespread public recognition, finishing 4th. That earned him the prize of $38,700. Around the world, poker players are known for their resourcefulness, calculating and mostly being sly. Maybe these qualities are the things that make Mark Seif such a successful player and maybe it all comes from his love for the game. He’s got hundreds of tournaments behind him, but he is best known for the two World Series of Poker bracelets he won in 2005 back-to-back. Mark Seif faced a field of 2,013 players to win his second bracelet and at the final table defeated professional such as Greg Raymer, Dave Ulliott and Bill Gazes among others. Altogether Mark Seif has managed to finish in 1st place 12 times.
When away from the poker table Mark Seif is a commentator for the Professional Poker Tour television series, which are aired weekly on the Travel Channel. He is also a spokesman for Absolute Poker. As of 2008, his total tournament winnings exceed $2,000,000. So far he has shown us nothing less than honest and interesting games.
