Mark Brockington is a professional poker player who comes from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He graduated at the University of Alberta with a Ph. D. in Computer Science with a thesis about parallel processing. After finishing the University he was hired at Bioware and has been working there since then, making commercial computer games.
Mark was taking part in wide range of projects such as Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age, Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II – Shadows of Amn. There is one more thing he was fond of, besides computer gaming, though – he always loved poker. So he decided to start playing professionally and maybe even make a career out of it.
Mark Brockington made his first success as a professional poker player on June 14, 2008, in the 39th Annual World Series of Poker – Event 23 – No-Limit Hold’em. He finished 2nd and took a check for $326.551. On June 15, 2008, Mark Brockington took part in the Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza III No-Limit Hold’em Tournament. He was placed 12th and went home with $1,999. Even though he only participated twice in major tournaments, his total tournament winnings as of 2008, come up to $328.550.
Recently stepping in the poker world, Mark Brockington is ranked 233rd by 2008 POY and 663rd by Bluff-ESPN Power. He still continues working on games because, as he says himself, there is still a child living inside him… and next to him! He has a daughter and loves going to game stores with her or playing in the park. He says that being a good father will always be his priority in life – and a good priority it is indeed.
