Professional school counselors provide culturally competent services to students, parents/guardians, school staff and the community in the following areas: • School Guidance Curriculum – This curriculum consists of structured lessons designed to help students achieve the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge and skills appropriate for their developmental level. The school guidance curriculum is delivered throughout the school's overall curriculum and is systematically presented by professional school counselors in collaboration with other professional educators in K-12 classroom and group activities. • Individual Student Planning – Professional school counselors coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to help students establish personal goals and develop future plans. • Responsive Services – Responsive services consist of prevention and/or intervention activities to meet students’ immediate and future needs. These needs can be necessitated by events and conditions in students’ lives and the school climate and culture, and may require any of the following: individual or group counseling consultation with parents, teachers and other educators referrals to other school support services or community resources peer helping psycho-education intervention and advocacy at the systemic level Professional school counselors develop confidential relationships with students to help them resolve and/or cope with problems and developmental concerns. • System Support – System support consists of management activities establishing, maintaining, and enhancing the total school counseling program. These activities include professional development, consultation, collaboration, supervision, program management and operations. Professional school counselors are committed to continual personal and professional development and are proactively involved in professional organizations promoting school counseling at the local, state and national levels.
• Counsel diverse caseload, including many ELL students. • Advise students in Grades 9-12 on issues relevant to secondary education and adolescence. • Guide and consult students and their families on postsecondary school planning; including both college and career counseling. • Work with students to schedule classes, maintain a high level of academic rigor and meet state standards. • Organize and guide college field trips for students as early as the 9th grade. • Visit many colleges across the United States to learn about a wide variety of higher education offerings and to establish direct relationships with admissions personnel. • Help students prepare and plan for various standardized exams.

At Frontbulb we firmly believe that the learning process can be and should be a painless and joyous endeavor filled with adventure. To that purpose we began a learning community to assist, support, coach, and most importantly to empower students as they make sense of the world that surrounds them and encourage them to be self-motivated and self-directed learners. Our programs are centered on loosely structured activities that use constructivist methods to help students develop their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social skills. We believe children are initially internally driven to learn; what we do is provide a relaxed, fun, and open framework in which they can safely discover the world. Our staff members are referred to as coaches because they serve the role of harnessing motivation, encouraging deeper and wider exploration, and ultimately helping every child reach their potential. Fundamentally our coaches serve as guides on individual and group learning journeys. Another core tenant of Frontbulb is reflection and documentation. We encourage children to critique their work and to learn from their mistakes. We also assist students in maintaining a living portfolio or an idea bank so that they and their guardians can see their development. Our live events vary in length. We offer classes at varying times during the week, weekends, and holidays for children in kindergarten through 4th grade. Frontbulb offers a unique service; there is no other program like it in Westchester County. Most afterschool programs are focused on a specific activity and are strictly structured and adult driven. In contrast we are student driven, and boundless in our scope. With the use of new media/technology, field trips, and expert speakers, we hope to demonstrate to students the direct experiential access they have to information, which can then be translated to knowledge. Frontbulb also places a premium on creativity, originality, and ideas that demonstrate the individual stamp of the student/creator. Frontbulb is based in southern Westchester. It does not have a permanent location, instead in travels to different schools in southern Westchester including but not limited to Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, Harrison, and Scarsdale. Frontbulb also uses museums, zoos, aquariums, parks, and other learning centers as field sites.

An innovative counselor and educator, Marcus Siotkas recently founded a new learning program for children known as FrontBulb. Based in southern Westchester County, New York, the program operates from several different schools including Harrison, Scarsdale, New Rochelle, and Mamaroneck. Marcus Siotkas’ FrontBulb encourages students to excel through self-motivation and creative exploration. Activities are loosely structured to enable each student to develop a wide array of skills, and emphasis is placed on nurturing the child’s capacity to perform original and creative work. The program is available for students in kindergarten through fourth grade. Since founding the organization in December 2010, Mr. Siotkas remains active as a Partner and Coach. Marcus Siotkas holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Industrial Design from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Education in Psychological Counseling with a concentration in School Counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University. Currently pursuing further academic qualifications at the College, Marcus Siotkas recently enrolled in the Master’s degree program for Cognitive Psychology with a focus on Intelligent Technologies. Mr. Siotkas began his professional career in 1998 as a Counseling Office Associate in the Social Work Department of the Rochester Institute of Technology. His more recent experience includes serving as a Counselor for Community Mainstream Associates from 2005 to 2006 and a School Counselor at Mamaroneck High School from 2006 to 2009. Currently, Marcus Siotkas advises students and helps them plan their postsecondary education as a School Counselor at New Rochelle High School. During the summer, Mr. Siotkas works as a Program Coordinator for the Summer High School Program offered by Columbia University. Continuing to develop his career as a counselor and educator, Mr. Siotkas maintains particular interests in educational reform, multicultural counseling, and educational toy design.
