About Marc Moran Hopewell

Marc Moran Hopewell - Professional Summary:

Marc Moran of Newbury, New Hampshire, owns and operates Hopewell Farms, a sustainable farming center that grows and raises high-quality, fresh foods for regional consumption, including by local restaurants. Supported almost entirely by local buyers, Hopewell Farms offers an array of fertilizer-free seasonal produce, including heirloom fruits and vegetables, and hormone- and drug-free livestock, such as grass-fed beef and lamb, pastured chicken, and organically raised tilapia fish. In addition to running a sustainable farm, Marc Moran also enjoys contributing to and educating his community, which he does by providing summer tours of his farm and operations and by donating to the Wounded Warrior Project and to various animal rescue groups.

Marc Moran built his family’s house at Hopewell Farms in 2006 and two years later moved to the property with them to focus on sustainable farming. Within a few short years, he has created an energy-independent property supported entirely by solar and wind power. Mr. Moran has received widespread recognition for his achievements at Hopewell Farms, including a 2012 Homesteaders of the Year award from Mother Earth News and a 2012 New Hampshire Farm of Distinction designation from the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets, and Food. Mr. Moran’s efforts have also led to Hopewell becoming the first Animal Welfare Approved farm in the state and the first commercial producer of tilapia in New England.

The history of Hopewell Farms began several centuries before Marc Moran and his family arrived at it to transform the property into a regional leader in sustainable agriculture. Founded in the 18th century, Hopewell has continuously operated as a farm since its establishment, except for a decade during the Great Depression. In the early 20th century, it served as the largest producer of poultry in New England and as a major maple sugaring house in New Hampshire. During the latter half of the last century, the farm raised and trained thoroughbred horses for competition. To learn more, visit www.newburyfarmer.com.
