Manpreet Gony is a professional cricketer, who was born on January 4, 1984 in Rupnagar, Punjab, India. He has two elder brothers Harpreet Singh Grewal and Manmohan Singh Grewal and he is married to Manpreet Kaur. Manpreet Gony is right-arm medium pacer and is also a handy batsman down the order. To his friends and family, he is known by his nickname “Gony”.
On June 25, 2008, Manpreet Gony made his One Day International (ODI) debut for the Indian side in a match against Hong Kong, in which his side won by a huge margin of 256 runs. A couple of days later, he played his second ODI against Bangladesh. In this game, Manpreet Gony took his first ODI wicket of the Bangladeshi captain, Mohammad Ashraful and followed it up by claiming the wicket of Alok Kapali.
Manpreet Gony made his First-class debut for Punjab in a match against Andhra at Amritsar on November 3, 2007. As of 2008, he has played five First-class matches and has claimed 13 wickets at an economy rate of 3.51, which includes two four-wicket hauls one against the West zone and the other against the South. These strong performances earned him reputation in the domestic circuit.
In 2008, Manpreet Gony was signed by the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Chennai Super Kings and made his debut for this side on April 19, 2008 in a match against Kings XI Punjab, in which his side won by 33 runs. Following this victory, he was regular in the side and played a crucial role in a league game against Delhi daredevils in which he guided his team to a victory by scoring the winning run. He was a member of the side that finished as runners-up in the inaugural edition of this tournament. During the first season of IPL, Manpreet Gony took a total of 17 wickets from 16 matches at an average of 26.05 and finished as the seventh highest wicket-taker in the tournament.
