Manoj Tiwary is an international cricketer, who was born on November 14, 1985 in Howrah, Bengal, India.
Manoj Tiwary, an aggressive right-handed batsman, who is also a useful part-time leg-spinner and an athletic fielder. Due to the Indian ace players Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly being rested, following India’s miserable 2007 World Cup campaign, Manoj Tiwary was named in the squad for the subsequent India’s tour of Bangladesh. However, he did not make it to the playing eleven, as he sustained an injury during training, and eventually went on to make his One Day International debut (ODI) on February 3, 2008 against Australia in the Commonwealth Bank Tri-series.
Manoj Tiwary made his First-class debut during the 2004-05 season for Bengal and went on to score more than 1000 run mark in just 14 games at an average of 56 and gained the attention of the national selectors. His run-tally includes his best score of 210 not out, with many considering his knock of an unbeaten 151 in the fourth innings of the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy Super League semi-final win over Karnataka as his best innings given the situation. Manoj Tiwary ended the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy campaign as the Bengal’s highest scorer in the Ranji Trophy surpassing Arun Lal’s record, which he set during the 1993-94 season, by scoring 796 runs in 7 matches at an average of 99.50.
Manoj Tiwary made his Twenty20 (T20) debut on April 3, 2007 for Bengal against Assam at Kolkata and later, was signed by Delhi Daredevils, an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise for $675,000. He made his IPL debut on April 19, 2008 against Rajasthan Royals at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. Manoj Tiwary ended the inaugural IPL season with 104 runs in 9 matches at an average of 26 and strike rate of 122.35, with his best score being 39 against Kings XI Punjab.
