Maninder Preet-Kaur Malik - Professional Summary:     

 

For the last three years, Maninder Preet-Kaur Malik has dedicated herself to pursuing a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Neuroscience at Fort Worth, Texas’ University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). Her research has included evaluating dopaminergic neuron function in relation to diseased conditions, testing of ligands during Rotarod experiments evaluating motor coordination in rats, and assessment of hypotheses via biostatistical analyses. Maninder Preet-Kaur Malik possesses Saf-T-Pak certification in packaging and compliance, CITI certification in protecting human research subjects, and experience working with cancer cell cultures, laboratory blood processing, pharmaceutical formulations, and more.

Prior to embarking on her Ph.D. program, Maninder Preet-Kaur Malik worked as a Clinical Research Student and Intern at UNTHSC while pursuing a Master of Science in Clinical Research Management at the school. In the position, she participated in data collection, Institutional Review Board interactions, study protocol review, and the patient consent process. She also analyzed subject retention methods, evaluated the medication dispensation preferences of Alzheimer’s disease caregivers, and participated in a Phase III, randomized, multicenter, double-blind study on the efficacy of an Alzheimer’s drug.

Ms. Malik’s higher education began in Amritsar, India, at Guru Nanak Dev University, where she studied anatomy, physiology, chemistry, drug design, pharmaceutical technology, and biopharmaceutics on her way to a Bachelor of Pharmacy. She possesses a variety of research skills, including proficiency with data management software and literature search programs. To give back to the community, she donates her time to the American Cancer Society and the humanitarian group Art of Living.

Assisting in preparation of rat brain slices to study the functional role of dopaminergic neurons in diseased
conditions such as Parkinson’s Disease.

 

Contributed to the testing of various dopaminergic ligands in Rotarod experiments to motor coordination of the unilaterally lesioned rats.

Performed various biostatistical analyses to assess the research hypothesis.
