Dr. Louis Zinterhofer pursued his physician mother’s medical specialty and became a pathologist after earning his medical degree and completing internship and residency requirements at Tulane University’s School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He continued his extensive training at the Medical Service Corps Program of the Aerospace Medicine Branch of NASA in Houston, Texas; Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut; and the University of California University Hospital in San Diego, now called UCSD Medical Center. Additionally, Dr. Louis Zinterhofer served his country as a U.S. Air Force Major, Medical Corps, at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) in Washington, DC. Today, Dr. Louis Zinterhofer is Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, and Director of Monmouth Medical Center’s Medical Technology Program. Founded in 1951, the faculty consists of 45 technicians and 21 physicians. Dr. Louis Zinterhofer is also President of Laboratory Medicine Associates in Long Branch, where he supervises a staff of 100 professionals, who each year perform close to 4 million lab tests ranging from standard tests, such as measuring glucose and cholesterol levels, to more complicated diagnostics such as tissue biopsies. As determining an accurate medical diagnosis is fundamental to treating patients, Dr. Louis Zinterhofer and his staff play critical roles in analyzing the results of their research and advising attending physicians. Dr. Louis Zinterhofer began his career at Monmouth Medical Center as an Associate Pathologist. After three years in this position, Louis Zinterhofer left to assume similar positions as Associate Pathologist with Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly, Maryland, and Greater Laurel-Beltsville Hospital in Laurel, Maryland. Dr. Louis Zinterhofer returned to Monmouth Medical Center within two years as Assistant Director. Seven years later, Dr. Louis Zinterhofer was promoted to Associate Director, and, shortly thereafter, to Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services. Dr. Louis Zinterhofer is the recipient of several awards, including a Certificate of Meritorious Service from the U.S. Air Force, the Board of Trustees Special Recognition Award from Monmouth Medical Center, and most recently the Physician Leadership Award also from Monmouth Medical Center. Dr. Louis Zinterhofer resides in Rumson, New Jersey with his wife, Susan.
