About Lonnie Harris
Garnering a variety of professional accolades throughout his career, Dr. Lonnie Harris has served in academic leadership roles for more than three decades. Living in Germantown, Tennessee, Lonnie Harris, Ed.D., works as Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Development Director for Fayette County Schools. A member of the National Education Association, Tennessee Education Association, and Tennessee Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, Dr. Harris is certified by the State of Tennessee in several areas of study, including political science, guidance, and elementary education.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Harris worked in the Shelby County Public School system in Memphis, Tennessee, from 1991 to 2010. He oversaw faculty and students as Principal of Germantown High School in Shelby County. Additionally, he served as an Associate Professor of Education at Union University’s graduate school from 1998 to 2007. Dr. Harris fulfilled various educational and administrative roles within the Shelby County government from 1979 to 1991.
A respected community member, Lonnie Harris received the civic designations of Honorary Shelby County Commissioner, Honorary Shelby County Deputy Sheriff, and Honorary Memphis City Councilman. An honorary lifetime member of the Tennessee Parent Teacher Association, he earned a nomination for the Thanks to Teachers Excellence Award. He has been selected for Who’s Who in the City of Germantown by The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis-area newspaper. In addition, Dr. Harris served as aide-de-camp in the State of Tennessee under former Senator Curtis Person.
Obtaining a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Memphis, Lonnie Harris also completed a Master of Science in Guidance and Personnel Services at the same institution. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and Social Sciences at Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. In his free time, Lonnie Harris enjoys golfing and showing horses.
