About Logo Dog Steve Carlson
Based in Ramsey, Minnesota, LogoDog, Inc., has designed strong brands for corporations, family events, athletic teams, and small businesses across North America. Although many clients prefer text-based branding, one of LogoDog’s strengths lies in illustrations. Founder Steve Carlson turns to longtime Web cartoonist and illustrator Joseph Pillsbury for assignments in which LogoDog's clients desire a striking image that says everything about what they do.
For The Broadleaf Group, LLC, an IT consultant firm based in Houston, Texas, the LogoDog design combined the basic shapes of a leaf and a person into one image: a human form with upraised arms substitutes for the spine and branches of the leaf. Flames have proved appropriate for a variety of designs that relate either to the name or the actual work of the company, from Sparks Fitness and Fuel Ministries to Pagallo’s Wood-Fired Pizza and Deli Co. LogoDog even incorporated flames into a design for Glass Elevator Communications, in whose brand a glass box with flames shooting out of the bottom brings to mind a rocket.
An evocative use of flames appears in the branding LogoDog designed for the teaching ministry of Gateway House of Prayer, a Christian organization based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Gateway’s educational mission, Messenger, employs a LogoDog image of a lion’s head in profile with tongues of flame playing across it. Gateway also uses a LogoDog design for its primary operation, a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week facility in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. An equally dramatic image of a lion’s muzzle facing the viewer, with a mane that consists of shooting lightning bolts, brands another LogoDog client, Uhren Leon Watches.
