Dr. Linda Gottwald is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner, college instructor, and journalist. She has lived and worked in Alameda, California, and Marathon, Florida, as well as in Atlanta and Chicago. Dr. Gottwald currently resides in Traverse City, Michigan, where she holds an adjunct faculty position at Northwestern Michigan College and is employed by Munson Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Gottwald acts as Executive Director of the Pine Cone Farm animal shelter in Traverse City.
In addition to her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DPN), Dr. Linda Gottwald holds two Master's degrees, one in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University and the other in Journalism from the Graduate School of Journalism of the University of California, Berkeley. While pursuing her advanced nursing degree at Rush University in Chicago, Dr. Gottwald won the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship, which recognizes and encourages the integration of community service with medical education. In addition, Dr. Gottwald taught special education students in California while pursuing her degree in Journalism from the University of California. Thus, her background in special education informs her current role as Instructor of Northwestern Michigan College students in nursing rotations to patients in a community mental health setting. Dr. Gottwald's writing in the health field was recognized by the Henry J. Kaiser Foundation with an award for health reporting. Dr. Gottwald has published articles in such notable publications as USA Today and the San Francisco Chronicle.
Linda Gottwald, DPN, has been honored on several occasions for her community service, educational excellence, and journalistic acumen. In 1995, she was selected as a Kaiser Family Foundation Health Reporting Fellow. In addition, the Albert Schweitzer Foundation honored Dr. Gottwald for her work with the Chicago Anti-Cruelty Society and institutionalized populations, and she received the Community Service Award for her work with animals in the city of Marathon, Florida.
