About lesley collins

lesley collins - Professional Summary:

Coming from a professional artist background, it is very fulfilling to help students develop their own skills from what I have learnt as an artist. To create a stimulating work environment, full of enthusiasm is a ‘real joy’. Experiences in murals, installation, public art, fine art painting and drawing, printmaking (some textiles), 3D papier-mâché installations, art theory, have broadened my approach in class projects and wish to develop ways to incorporate art history, social issues that may work with other departments such as history or math. The more pupils can understand the world around them the better their own understanding in achieving/finding future goals.

During 2007 I completed my GTP Teacher Training, achieving NQT status. This had taken a few years to achieve as I had to attain a GCSE pass for Mathematics before my GTP.I have spent the last 3 years developing painting, exhibition/networking, digital photographic art and its use in assessments/drawing aids in art work, and would like to combine these skills within my teaching via more challenging multimedia projects. Although my range of foreign languages are limited my range of artistic languages are diverse. Having re organized past teaching projects/objectives/ assessment activities based on GTP training, (for instance), incorporating more whiteboard techniques to develop broader teaching strategies with step by step instructions as prompters or pupil participation in arranging designs in digital art or installation designs and one could say the most valuable method of teacher/peer/self assessment strategies.

What I’m looking for as an NQT, is to find a supportive and enthusiastic art team/institution so that I can contribute my arts experiences towards purposeful and rewarding projects. The projects highlighted within my CV documents the variety of challenging community arts activities which can transfer to the classroom. Please visit my web site in Picasa web albums les.collins@googlemail.com.

European studies in Barcelona and Rome broadened my outlook/expectations; formulating areas of cultural enquiry and experiences essential to any contemporary arts practice. Whilst time in Hungary revealed the opportunity of collating my entire art collection in order to reassess artistic directions and enquiries. Gathering photographic slides documenting my work prior to 1997 to compile a digital slide collection including work digitalized after 97 to current work and assemble web albums open to the public on Picasa will be useful in initial presentations/slide shows as a form of introduction to my teaching. My preferences are broad; I like to be with a caring and supportive team, within secondary education, (or FE, HE, community arts). I would instigate art visits to access artist‘s work/practices; instigate drawing/colour courses alongside investigations into different art languages and develop challenging projects within multimedia installation.

Being sensible to the economic changes, maybe the future lack of art posts means applying for general supply teaching? Which is no problem as it s really very interesting covering science lessons at one school, we finished with a test last day before Christmas break, the department was pleased with the results, easy with organised cover work.Experiences extend from museum/community workshops for young people of 6/16; Prison teaching; Secondary school education through to adult education (from non vocation to part time BA). These teaching experiences (artistic skills) in public art murals, community arts and installation, fine art painting and drawing, printmaking (some textiles), 3D papier-mâché installations, art theory, Digital developments previously explained could be implemented, for example, by developing a web site as an art gallery to find collaborative links with other schools in local/national/European institutions.

My Picasa website covers the range of activities achieved .Exploring the use of language in art…is a method ‘of thinking outside the box’. For instance, in critical analysis of Surrealism and understanding how to a variety of techniques can be used to build up a composition and uses of narrative. Uses of computer technology for pupil/peer/teacher assessment strategies are developments I have been adapting since my teacher training. In my last teaching post, introducing specialist artists, contributing to the performing arts department for visual props, displays, contributing to local authority competitions, as well as any other request made by other departments and after school activities were part of my role. Any employer will find me find me hardworking and enthusiastic, willing to adapt to systems/rules and situations as the flexibility in my employment record demonstrates.
