Leon Barnett is a professional football player, who was born on November 30, 1985 in Luton, England.
At the age of 13, Leon Barnett played his first game of football for the hometown side, Bushmead Wanderers. During the early days of his career, he played in various positions, including left-back, right-back, centre-midfield and up-front. He began his professional football career with the Luton Town's Youth Academy and moved to the senior side after signing his professional contract with the club. A couple of years later, he was sent on a season long loan deal to Aylesbury United and played six games for this club. During the 2005-06 season, Leon Barnett returned to Luton Town and improved his performance in the following season. This defender scored his first professional goal on the opening day of the 2006-07 season in a home game against Leicester City. During his tenure at this club, Leon Barnett appeared in a total of 59 games and scored 3 goals. After he won Luton's official Player of the Year award for the 2006–07 season, Leon Barnett switched to West Bromwich Albion, the English premier side.
On July 26, 2007, Leon Barnett signed a four-year contract with West Bromwich Albion, the Championship team, for an initial transfer fee of £2.5 million that keeps him in the club until 2011. He made his first appearance for this club in an away game against Burnley on the opening day of the 2007-08 season. On September 22, 2007, he netted the first goal for this club in its 3-2 victory over Scunthorpe United in an away game. For his spectacular performance in the club’s 2–1 away win over Leicester City on December 8, 2007, Leon Barnett earned a place in the Championship Team of the Week. As of 2008, he has made a total of 36 appearances for this club and has scored three goals to his credit.
