Lavinia Stan is an Associate Professor at St. Francis Xavier University in Canada, where she also serves as Director of the Center for Post-Communist Studies. Her main research interests revolve around democratization, broadly conceives. More precisely, she has published extensively on religion and politics, and transitional justice. She is the author of Leaders and Laggards (Columbia University Press, 2003) and Transitional Justice in Post-Communist Romania (Cambridge University Press, 2012), co-author of Religion and Politics in Post-Communist Romania (with Lucian Turcescu, Oxford University Press, 2007) and Church, State and Democracy in the Enlarged Europe (with Lucian Turcescu, Oxford University Press, 2011), editor of Romania in Transition (Dartmouth, 1997), and co-editor of Encyclopedia of Transitional Justice (with Nadya Nedelsky, Cambridge University Press, 2012, three volumes). Her articles have been published in refereed scholarly journals in the United States, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Romania, and Moldova. She has delived presentations at conferences, workshops and seminars in Canada, the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Norway, Poland, Spain, Malta, Belgium, Cyprus, and Romania. 


Lavinia Stan - Professional Experience:


Lavinia Stan has taught at various Canadian universities, including St. Francis Xavier University, McMaster University, Dalhousie University, St. Mary's University, and Concordia University. As a teacher, she was awarded an outstanding teacher award by McMaster University (1997), and was nominated for an award at Concordia University (2008). An accomplished scholar, her publications have been widely acclaimed.
