About Laurie Scolari

Dean of Outreach and Counseling, Student Support Services, and Outreach & Recruitment at City College of San Francisco, Laurie Scolari has over 17 years of experience in the field of educational leadership. Her valuable work focuses on boosting the number of first-generation college students through outreach and recruitment for potential students, specifically underserviced youth and students who are racial minorities. A graduate of San Francisco State University, Laurie Scolari earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership. During the course of her professional career she has received many notable awards and grants. 

Recognized for academic and professional excellence across the board, highlights of Ms. Scolari’s honors include recognition by the Superintendent of Compton Unified School District for Extraordinary Contribution, a feature on ModernLatina.com as an Inspirational Latina, recognition by the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Trustees for Valuable Contribution, and most recently, the Award of Excellence for Outstanding Contributions and Achievements from City College of San Francisco.

Since 1999, Ms. Scolari has received millions of dollars in grants to further her important work aiding California high-school students to enroll in colleges and universities. A grantee of Communities Learning in Partnership through the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, Laurie Scolari partnered with the San Francisco Unified School District and the San Francisco Mayor’s office to increase efforts to make higher education a reality for more California youth. Laurie Scolari was also awarded two very sizable grants through the U.S. Department of Education for a program called GEAR UP: Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. Her valuable work has resulted in measurable growth at City College of San Francisco, where enrollment among African American students and Latino students has shown considerable gains. 

Laurie Scolari is a member of the Latino Education Association at City College of San Francisco, where she also serves as the chairperson of the Academic Policies Subcommittee and K-12 Partnerships. In her free time, Ms. Scolari enjoys playing guitar, singing, and motorcycle riding.
