Laurel Panser - Professional Summary:     

 

A 2008 Fulbright–Hays Fellow, Laurel Panser immersed herself in Moroccan culture through the Seminars Abroad program. Joining educators from New York, Wisconsin, Ohio, Illinois, Nevada, and other states, she participated in the seminar Morocco: The Delicate Balance between Traditional Identity and Modernity. Following this trip, participants compiled a group journal, available for perusal at www.macece.org/fhsprojects/GroupJournal.pdf, and researched various topics, such as the Middle East and North Africa and the role and status of women in Moroccan society. Laurel Panser graduated from Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a Master of Arts in Geography at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. At the University of Washington, she obtained a Master of Science in Epidemiology. Ms. Panser completed additional studies in counseling and psychological services at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in Winona and in philosophy and ethics at Minnesota State University Moorhead. At Rochester Community and Technical College, she received certification for online instruction. 

Currently teaching part time as a temporary Adjunct Instructor at Riverland Community College in Austin, Minnesota, Laurel Panser’s more than 15 years of employment in education includes stints as an instructor, adjunct instructor, licensed substitute teacher, and tutor. The list of college courses taught by her spans a variety of subjects, including child and adolescent psychology, medical ethics, geography, philosophy, writing, and epidemiology. At Rochester Community and Technical College, Ms. Panser received two TRIO Appreciation awards through the Student Support Services Program of the U.S. Department of Education and a ranking of 69 to 100 percent of students in different classes who said they would take another course from her. 

Prior to her distinguished career in education, Laurel Panser held several positions at the Mayo Clinic and at Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research in Rochester, Minnesota. She worked as an epidemiologist and clinical epidemiologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology and as an Instructor in Epidemiology at Mayo Medical School. Laurel Panser also served as Project Coordinator of a study on urinary symptoms in men in the Department of Health Sciences Research at the Mayo Clinic. In addition, Laurel Panser operated her own business for a number of years as a consulting epidemiologist and ethics coach.
