As President of Resort Vacation Accommodations, a rental, vacation rental, and real estate business on Longboat Key, Florida, Larry Starr maintains the industry’s greatest market share in the region. Even as a child, Larry Starr exhibited an entrepreneurial spirit, rising before the sun to mow lawns or shovel snow, depending on the season. In the early 1980s he purchased Longboat Accommodations, a real estate and vacation rental business. As President of Longboat Accommodations on Longboat Key, Larry Starr oversaw every aspect of the business, including guest relations, marketing, and the reservation systems. In 10 years, he grew the firm to 11,000 guests visiting more than 400 properties. In his next venture, Larry Starr served as President of another vacation rental and real estate enterprise, Florida Vacation Accommodations (FVA) in Sarasota. An expansion of the Longboat Key business, this company grew to more than 150 employees and offered vacation rentals along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Under Larry Starr’s direction, FVA became the Florida Gulf Coast’s largest vacation rental service. Larry Starr also develops and sells vacation rental units. In 2001, after selling FVA to ResortQuest International, the largest vacation rental company in the U.S., Larry Starr accepted a position as the Southwest Florida President for ResortQuest International. In 2009, Larry Starr opened Resort Vacation Accommodations, a ResortQuest-affiliated company, on Longboat Key. One of the Gulf Coast’s most peaceful barrier islands, Longboat Key features 12 miles of sparsely populated beaches, luxury accommodations, and beautiful tennis and golf facilities. Larry Starr’s latest venture continues to succeed, remaining the largest vacation rental firm in the region.
