Lara Iverson - Professional Summary:    

Lara J. Iverson is at SUNY-University at Buffalo, in New York, where she is working toward her PhD in Geography. In her doctoral dissertation, Iverson focuses on tuberculosis-related stigma experienced by women in Zambia. Her research integrates the fields of medical anthropology, epidemiology and computational modeling.

She is a consultant for the SUNY-UB School of Public Health and Health Professions and was a Research Project Assistant at the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis. In the former role, Lara J. Iverson helped to develop a series of workshops for law enforcement personnel and individuals working in the field of public health. She also presented the workshop, “Application of GIS in Landscape Epidemiology and Vector-Borne Diseases” at the first annual GIS and Health Day in Western New York. At the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, Iverson collaborated with others on spatiotemporal modeling for a project on Flavivirus infection in Thailand funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Lara J. Iverson holds a bachelor's degree in International Studies from Marlboro College. She has earned master's degrees from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa and the University of London School of Oriental and African Studies, in Asian studies and medical anthropology, respectively. She also obtained a Graduate Certificate in Field Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her professional development includes training in advanced statistical computing from Medical University of South Carolina and University of Michigan ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research. This past summer, Iverson furthered her training after receiving a scholarship to the University of Washington Department of Biostatistics Summer Institute of Statistics and Modeling of Infectious Diseases, completing modules in mathematical modeling and stochastic simulation methods.

Her doctoral dissertation fieldwork in Zambia will be funded through a grant from the National Science Foundation.
