Lane Liroff serves as Deputy District Attorney in Santa Clara County, where he has worked for three decades. In his position as a Deputy District Attorney, he acts as a senior trial lawyer, prosecuting individuals accused in homicide cases. In this capacity, he represents the interests of the government and acts as a leader in the county legal department. Lane Liroff has led a full and interesting career, combining his time at the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office with two years at the United States Department of Justice’s Criminal Division in Washington, D.C. From 1998 to 1999, he worked as a Trial Attorney for the Capital Case Unit. There, he held a number of responsibilities, including assistance with the prosecution, preparation of confidential memoranda in federal death penalty cases, and development of training materials and programs for the U.S. attorneys who prosecuted the cases. Lane Liroff prepared for his career with a comprehensive education that began at the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Philosophy in 1972. Soon after graduation, he entered law school at Southwestern University in Los Angeles, where he was awarded his Juris Doctor in 1976. Lane Liroff was admitted to the California Bar and the United States District Court for the Northern District of California in 1976, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in 1980. Often recognized for his achievements, Lane Liroff has earned many awards. Most recently, he received the George W. Kennedy Excellence in Prosecution Award from the San Jose Police Department. He also received the Outstanding Instructor Award from Lincoln Law School of San Jose twice, and the Napoleon R. Menard Trial Advocacy Award, given by the Santa Clara County District Attorney.
