Lamine Diatta is an international football player who was born on July 2, 1975 in Dakar, which is the capital city of Senegal. He moved with his family to France when he was one year old.
Lamine Diatta represented Senegal at the international level and was a part of Senegal’s international squad since 2000. He has played in all of Senegal’s matches in the 2002 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup and was also honored with captaincy for a short period. Considered as the holding force in the centre of Senegal’s defense, Lamine Diatta has won 40 international caps for his national side with three goals to his credit.
Lamine Diatta started playing professional football in 1998 with the senior team of Toulose Football Club, where he played for one season and appeared in twenty five games. The following year, this Senegalese defender signed a contract with Stade Rennais and stayed there till 2004. During this tenure there he played 129 games and netted eleven goals. Lamine Diatta made a move to Olympique Lyonnais in 2004 and appeared in nineteen games during his first season for this club. He played 13 games during the 2005-2006 season and was a part of the team that won the French League 1 championship in 2005 and 2006. Lamine Diatta signed to play for St. Etienne in 2006 and scored one goal from twenty five appearances for this club.
During the 2007-2008 season he played for a Turkey-based football club, Besiktas J.K. and featured in six games for it. In 2008 Lamine Diatta participated in a one-week trial at Newcastle United,at the end of which he agreed to a short-term deal that was concluded on March 7, 2008. He made his first appearance for the club when he came on as a substitute in a Premier League match against Reading.
