Kevin Harms - Professional Summary: Having served as a Navy Carrier Air Wing Strike Lead and Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor, CMDR Kevin Harms was assigned as lead operational planner for a Department of Defense operation plan while assigned to U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, FL.  Kevin conceived, developed and socialized a plan to respond to threats and inform decisions at the highest levels of government in times of crisis.  While many of the skills necessary to produce such a plan we similar to those learned in the Navy, CMDR Harms also found the Joint Professional Military Education he received at the Navy War College to be invaluable.  CMDR Harms coordinated and collaborated with all geographic and functional combatant command, the Joint Staff, Office of the Secretary of Defense, interagency organizations and international partners to prepare base and contingency plans.  Kevin also mobilized the intelligence community to produce more detailed models of threat capabilities and vulnerabilities.  CMDR Harms led research and analysis of transnational threats, not just to the Navy, but the nation and allies.  Kevin led transformation of the plan into a dynamic strategic and operational planning framework that was adopted by the Secretary of Defense and proved effective in several real-world scenarios.  At the conclusion of 22 months on the staff, CMDR Harms returned to the Navy for refresher training in the F/A-18 Super Hornet and reported to Strike Fighter Squadron 137.  At 137, Kevin served as Executive Officer for 17 months before assuming command overseas.  CMDR Harms led the unit in combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq and earned a Strike Flight Air Medal and Afghanistan Campaign Medal for support of friendly forces on the ground.

 

Kevin Harms - Professional Experience: 20 years of experiences as a U.S. Navy officer and operational F/A-18 pilot.  TOPGUN graduate.  U.S. Pacific Fleet Pilot of the Year.  Commanded squadron in combat in Iraq and Afgahnistan.
