About Kevin Duschenchuk
Kevin Duschenchuk - Professional Summary:
Deeply embedded in the professional maritime culture, Kevin Duschenchuk began his career in the field in 1998. Starting at Keystone Shipping Company as a Third Mate in the bulk transportation of refined products, Kevin Duschenchuk eventually moved into his current role as a Chief Mate for Polar Tankers Inc in 2001. Responsible for the safe delivery of over 900,000 barrels of Alaskan North Slope crude oil, Kevin Duschenchuk manages a crew of mixed experiences while maintaining a complicated system of centrifugal pumps and equipment. Kevin Duschenchuk utilizes his understanding of the work conditions and environment in mediating any crew conflicts and counseling members in need of motivation while away from friends and family at home. In addition to sailing with his Polar Tankers crew, Kevin Duschenchuk instructs students for the Global Maritime and Transportation School (GMATS) at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. Since 2001, Kevin Duschenchuk has taught courses critical to the safe operation of vessels at sea including the tank shipping of dangerous liquids, RADAR/ARPA, and both basic and advanced firefighting. While onboard the flagship training ship TV Kings Pointer, Kevin Duschenchuk served as a watch standing mate and developed a new curriculum. Kevin Duschenchuk crafted the Coast Guard-approved 500/1600 GT Mate Program and the NOAA BOTC training course, "Construction, Stability, and Trim." Teaching away from campus and onsite at important marine industry locations, Kevin Duschenchuk found educational opportunities at the Dynegy Roseton Generating Facility in Newburgh, New York and at a transportation control center in Newark, New Jersey. Kevin Duschenchuk taught classes in facility PIC and general radio operations at these off-campus venues. Kevin Duschenchuk is proficient in ship security, medical care procedures, and GMDSS radio usage and continues to further his knowledge while embarking on oil transportation assignments in United States waters.
