About Me

Founder, President, and Chief Investment Officer of Jayhawk Capital Management Kent McCarthy has over 30 years of experience in the financial industry. McCarthy has also been an active contributor to business education. He began his investing career in 1984 in Goldman Sachs’ New York City and San Francisco offices, where he worked in the company's Private Client Services Division and became the division's top producer. In addition, McCarthy served as a member of the Stone Street Investment Committee, which managed the company's employees’ private equity investments.

In 1988, Kent McCarthy was accorded a sabbatical from Goldman Sachs to teach at the University of Kansas, where he established and taught a course on Applied Portfolio Management. In 1993, McCarthy retired from Goldman Sachs and began serving the university as the full-time instructor for that course. McCarthy received distinction by being awarded the Henry Bubb Award for outstanding teaching from the School of Business. He continues to serve in a supervisory role for the course. Additionally, he has taught students at CIMBA’s MBA program in Italy, which is affiliated with the University of Kansas. He was awarded one of the two annual spots on the University of Kansas Business School's list of Distinguished Alumni in 2004. McCarthy remains a member of the Finance Advisory Board and the School of Business Board of Advisers for the University of Kansas School of Business. He is also a lifetime member of the Chancellor's Club.

Kent McCarthy holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting, as well as a Master of Science in Taxation from the University of Kansas School of Business. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University.
