About Ken Heinz
For nearly three decades, Ken Heinz has served the Nebraska educational system as a teacher, principal, and superintendent. He launched his career in 1985 as a choral director and assistant football coach at Concordia Junior-Senior High School. In 1992, he accepted a position as the Principal of Genoa Public School. Over the course of his tenure at the school, students’ scores increased due to Dr. Heinz’s modified curriculum. This success led the Nebraska Council of School Administrators to name him Outstanding New Principal in 1994.
In 1997, Ken Heinz became the Superintendent of the Osceola Public School system. In this position, he was placed in charge of more than 300 students and 70 employees. Once again, Dr. Heinz’s innovative educational methods led to a district-wide improvement in test scores. In 2007, he left Osceola to become the Superintendent of the Centura Public Schools, a position he held for three years. This placed him at the head of twice as many students and more than 100 staff members, and it more than doubled his budget. By creating new classes and rewriting the district curriculum, Dr. Heinz repeated his success at driving up his students’ test scores.
Ken Heinz’s outstanding achievements as an educator prompted the Governor of Nebraska to twice appoint him to the Professional Practices Commission. He was also honored with a State FFA Cornerstone Achievement Award. This award is given in recognition of outstanding leadership of regional FFA, or Future Farmers of America, programs.
Before starting his career, Ken Heinz earned his Bachelor of Music from Nebraska Wesleyan University, graduating with a 3.66 grade point average. Then, at Kansas State University, he achieved his Master of Science, finishing with a 4.0 GPA. In 2005, he completed his Doctor of Education from the University of Nebraska. Once again, Dr. Heinz achieved a 4.0 GPA.
