Kasper Schmeichel is a professional football goalkeeper who was born on November 5, 1986, in Copenhagen, Denmark. His father, Peter Schmeichel, was also a football goalkeeper who had played for top English Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City.
As a young talented player, Kasper Schmeichel has represented the Denmark Under-19 team in 8 matches during 2004-2005. In 2006, he played one game in the Under-20 level and has made 15 appearances for the national Under-21 side since 2007. He was named “Danish Under-21 Talent of the Year” in 2007.
Kasper Schmeichel began his professional football career in 2003 with Manchester City and while a member of the club, he was often loaned out to other teams like Darlington, Bury, Falkirk, Cardiff City and Coventry City. On January 14, 2006, he made his first team debut for Darlington against Peterborough United at the 96.6 TFM Arena. In the same month, he proved his goalkeeping skills by gaining his first clean sheet in a match against Grimsby Town.
From February 2006 onwards, Kasper Schmeichel played 29 matches for Bury before moving to the Scottish Premier League side Falkirk in January 2007. He soon established himself in the team and was named the “Man of the Match” at the end of the game against Rangers on February 18, 2007. Due to his superb performance, his loan period was further extended till August 2007.
Kasper Schmeichel returned to Manchester City and got the chance to play for it for the first time in August 2007 against West Ham United. By saving a penalty taken by Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, he further strengthened his claim to the goalkeeping position. Kasper Schmeichel played in Manchester City's first seven games of the 2007-08 season and conceded only five goals. In September 2007, he extended his tenure at Manchester City by signing a fresh four-year contract with the club.
Kasper Schmeichel was sent on a one-month loan to Cardiff City and played his first game for the team against Scunthorpe United on October 27, 2007. He returned to Manchester City in January 2008 and was again loaned out to Coventry City till the end of the season on March 2008.
