Karine Martirosyan - Professional Summary: Over the course of the last 16 years, maternal and child health specialist Karine Martirosyan, MD, PhD, MPH has directed numerous public health care projects. In 2001, Karine Martirosyan accepted a position as Maternal and Child Health Senior Clinician for Doctors of the World-USA. An asset to this organization, Karine Martirosyan supported the Gjilan Regional Hospital, designing the Maternal and Infant Health Program and restructuring the maternity ward. Karine Martirosyan also wrote a successful grant for $50,000 in UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) funding for this unit of the hospital, developing Kosovo’s first continuing education program for medical providers in obstetrics and gynecology. In 2004, Karine Martirosyan joined Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD) Head Start and Children's Services Program, where she has since transitioned from Health Coordinator to Director of Health Services. Her role primarily revolves around managing and supervising health staff for ABCD’s Head Start program, which provides vital services to underprivileged pregnant women and children under 5 years old. Early in her career, Karine Martirosyan spent seven years with the Centre of Maternal and Child Health Protection in Armenia, a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Research in Human Reproduction. In addition to clinical work as an obstetrician/gynecologist and clinical research related to maternal and child health, Karine Martirosyan trained obstetrics and gynecology residents, as well as medical students. Immersed n her industry, Karine Martirosyan, MD, PhD, MPH belongs to a number of professional organizations, including the American Public Health Association, Medical Women’s International Association, the Boston Network for International Development, and the Geneva Foundation for Medical Education and Research. Karine Martirosyan attended Yerevan State Medical University, receiving a Doctor of Medicine in 1991. After competing an obstetrics and gynecology resident at Centre of Maternal and Child Health Protection, Karine Martirosyan earned her Ph.D. in reproductive medicine. Karine Martirosyan also possesses a postgraduate diploma from the University of Geneva and a Master’s degree in International Health from Harvard School of Public Health. In addition to her academic endeavors, Karine Martirosyan has completed multiple training courses related to maternal and child health care and humanitarian issues.
