They say when you make a career of something you love doing, you can get rid of life’s monotony and boredom that people so often complain about. That’s exactly what Justin Lee Langer, former Australian cricket player did. He made cricket, something he was passionate about his career choice. With the kind of grit and determination he showed at an early age towards cricket, folks and friends knew for a a fact that Justin is someday going to make it big in the field of cricket.
Born on the 20th of November in 1970 in the suburb of Subiaco in Perth, Western Australia, Justin Langer played his first international test match in January 1993 against West Indies.
Justin Langer’s successful partnership with Matthew Hayden as the opening batsman saw many victories at test matches. And for years to come, this winning pair held the title for being one of the most successful alliances of all times.
Justin’s numerous and lusty blows have earned him the reputation of being one of those magnificent players who could hit any ball for a six or boundary. After a hiatus of 4 years, Langer made a successful comeback during the Australian tour of Pakistan. This particular series witnessed the first century made by Justin Langer in International Cricket. For a few years thereafter, Langer consistently enjoyed the Number Three position.
For the prolific left-handed batsman that he is, Justin Langer today has over 23 centuries, 7696 runs, and 105 test matches to his credit. In 2004, it was Langer who outclassed the Pakistanis at the Perth test. After mounting pressure to replace the famous duo with a younger pair and a series of blows/injuries, Justin Langer played his last match in 2007.
But he was roped in by the Rajasthan Royals team in the Indian Premier League 2008 where he again served as an opening batsman. For a man of his calibre, Justin Langer sure deserves more opportunities to exhibit his skills.
