About Julio Santa Cruz

Julio Santa Cruz is a professional football player who was born on February 1, 1990 in Asuncion, which is the capital and largest city of Paraguay. He is the younger brother of Roque Santa Cruz, a well-known player playing for the Blackburn Rovers football club.

Julio Santa Cruz started his professional football career by playing for the Cerro Porteno, a Paraguayan football club, based in Barrio Obrero in Asuncion. A South American football source, in an interview to inthenews.co.uk, told that Cerro Porteno is a big club in Paraguay and added that if Julio Santa Cruz could make it to the club at such a young age, then he must surely have some potential.

The English football club, Blackburn Rovers, had tried Julio Santa Cruz at its homeground Ewood Park towards the end of the 2007-2008 season, and again during the 2008-2009 pre-season campaign. Impressed with his performance, the club offered him a three-year deal. He signed the contract on August 6, 2008, joining his elder brother, Roque Santa Cruz, who also plays for Blackburn Rovers as a striker.

After signing the contract, Julio Santa Cruz said in an interview that he was happy to be at Blackburn and he feels that it would be an amazing adventure for him. He would be spending his first season in the reserves in order to gain experience in the game.
