Judge Pete Lowry - Professional Summary:    A former judge of the 261st District Court of Travis County, Judge Pete Lowry has served as an exceptional asset to the judicial system in the State of Texas during a career that has spanned over three and a half decades. Judge Pete Lowry attended the University of Texas, where he studied journalism and English. Judge Pete Lowry’s mother worked as a prominent columnist, and he followed in her footsteps before realizing his natural aptitude for understanding and arbitrating legal issues. With much encouragement from his friends and peers, Judge Pete Lowry continued at the University of Texas, earning his Bachelor of Laws degree.

 

While in law school, Judge Pete Lowry remained involved with journalism by working as an Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review. Judge Pete Lowry benefited greatly from the plentitude of resources at the state’s largest law school and excelled in his classes. Upon graduation, Judge Pete Lowry obtained a position as a law clerk with the Texas Supreme Court. Working for the Texas Supreme Court offered Judge Pete Lowry a privileged insight into legal matters and processes. After completing his clerkship, Judge Pete Lowry was offered a job as Partner with McGinnis, Lochridge, & Kilgore L.L.P. In 1977, then-Governor Dolph Briscoe appointed Judge Pete Lowry as judge of the 261st District Court of Travis County.

 

Judge Pete Lowry operated as judge of the state’s highest trial court for 22 years, before stepping down to found a law firm with Judge James R. Meyers. Meyers and Lowry maintained a successful dispute resolution practice, wherein they mediated and arbitrated disputes involving complex litigation and conducted mediations and arbitrations. Judge Pete Lowry retired in 2005. Currently residing in Blanco County, Texas, Judge Pete Lowry supports a myriad of charitable and non-profit organizations, such as Partners in Health, The Salvation Army, and Hospice Austin.
