Judge Michael Malihi - Professional Summary

Appointed in 1995 in Atlanta, Georgia, Judge Michael Malihi brings nearly two decades of experience to bear on his role as the Deputy Chief Judge at the Georgia Office of State Administrative Hearings. Earlier in his career, he worked for Atlanta Legal Aid, the Boston Children’s Museum, and Harvard Law School.

Administrative Responsibilities: Supervision of all Judges, including circuit assignments, mentoring and performance reviews • Supervision of adjudication of more than 40,000 cases annually • Assisting Chief Judge with the supervision of the budget, human resources, staff attorneys, administrative staff, Chief Clerk, Court Security, and Chief Information Officer • Assisting Chief Judge as a liaison to the Governor, General Assembly, Superior and State Courts, Attorney General, State Bar of Georgia, Defense Attorneys, Prosecutors, Law Enforcement, Legal Aid, Legal Services Adjudication responsibilities: • Adjudication of several thousand cases from Fulton County, Georgia • Adjudication of complex matters, including cases referred by the Office of the Governor, Health Care cases, Environmental matters, Banking and Finance, Ethics, Professional Licensing, Employment, Teacher Ethics and Certification, Tax, Securities, Elections, Fraud, Medicaid, Special Education

Judge Michael Malihi was appointed in 1995. He has served as Deputy Chief Judge to Hon. Chief Judge Mark A. Dickerson (1988-2000), Hon. Chief Judge Lois F. Oakley (2000-2010), and Hon. Chief Judge Maxwell Wood (since 2010). Judge Malihi serves as the principal advisor to the Chief Judge on all legal and administrative matters and is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Court. Judge Malihi has served in various capacities since he was appointed Judge, including service as an Administrative Law Judge and Division Director. Judge Malihi adjudicates cases in the Fulton County Circuit. In addition, he adjudicates complex litigation throughout the State. Judge Malihi graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from University of Alabama. He received his Juris Doctor degree from Boston University School of Law.
