Jose da Silva Bosingwa, a football player was born on August 24, 1982 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo to a Portuguese father and a Congolese mother. He later relocated with his parents to Seia, inner Portugal, in the Guarda district at a tender age. He was a part of the Portugal national under-21 football team in the 2003-04 season and represented Portugal in 2004 Olympic Games, in Athens and the 2004 under-21 European championship. In 2007, Jose da Silva Bosingwa became a regular member of the Portugal squad and played for the team in the Euro 2008 Championships. In the Euro 2008, he was a part of the starting eleven and played at right back position in 3 matches. His consistent performance in all three matches of the Euro 2008 paved way for him to be named in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Team of the Tournament 2008. As of 2008, Jose da Silva Bosingwa has made 12 appearances for the Portugal national football team.
This international footballer initially played for Fornos de Algodres, a local side F.C. in Portugal, where he improved his football skills. Jose da Silva Bosingwa performed exceptionally well and was selected to play for the Boavista Football Club (F.C.) – youth division. In 2000, when he was 18, he became a professional player for the Boavista FC. In the 2000-01 season, he was loaned out to Sport Clube (SC) Freamunde, a neighboring Portuguese football club for a brief period. Jose da Silva Bosingwa was then recalled by Boavista F.C. and continued his career with them for next two seasons, when he made 41 appearances. His versatility was fully used by Jaime Pacheco, the former Boavista coach, and his impressive performances caught the attention of José Mourinho, the former FC Porto manager, in 2003-04, who chose him for his F.C. Porto squad.
On September 16, 2003, Jose da Silva Bosingwa made his UEFA Champions League debut, and played against FK Partizan, a football club from Belgrade, which ended up in a 1-1 draw. He played a total of 8 matches in which F.C. Porto won the finals of the league. Though he started off as a midfielder, he became an established defender and F.C. Porto’s preferred player in the 2004-05 season, after veteran players like Paulo Ferreira and Carlos Secretário left the club. Jose da Silva Bosingwa was also a part of the team that won the 2004 Portuguese Supercup and the 2004 FIFA Intercontinental Cup. In 2006, he was instrumental for the club’s victory in the Portuguese Supercup and Portuguese Cup. Jose da Silva Bosingwa has been an important member of the club in for five seasons from 2003 to 2008 and helped the club to win the Portuguese League in the years, 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008.
Jose da Silva Bosingwa signed a three-year contract for Chelsea, a London football club on May 11, 2008 and joined the club after Euro 2008 along with Luiz Felipe Scolari, Portugal national team boss and Anderson Luis de Souza, a fellow international player.
