Jonathan Parkin is a professional football player who was born on December 30, 1981 in Barnsley, England.


Jonathan Parkin began his professional football career with the youth system of his hometown club Barnsley United. This defender turned striker made his debut for this club at the age of seventeen, in a game against Hartlepool United. After playing 13 games for it, he was a sent on brief loan spells to Hartlepool United and. He made the move to York City permanent by signing a new contract with it. During his two-year stint with this club, Jonathan Parkin played as a central defender and made a total of 87 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals to his credit.


In February 2004, Jonathan Parkin moved to Macclesfield Town football club and had a spectacular first season, where he scored 26 goals, which was a new club record then. He also began playing as a striker for the side that season. In the following season, he scored nine goals from the fifteen games he played for the club. English Premier League side Hull City signed Jonathan Parkin on an 18-month contract in January 2006. He made a promising start for this club by scoring a goal in his debut game against Crystal Palace. He finished the 2005-06 season on a high by scoring five goals from the 19 games he played for Hull City. In the following season, Jonathan Parkin continued his good form by scoring three goals in its first five games and thus became the only Hull City player to score in the League during the opening month of the season.


Jonathan Parkin was sent on a brief loan spell to his former club Stoke City in March 2007, but on April 10, 2007, he was recalled by Hull City. During his tenure at Hull City, he played 47 games for the club and has scored 11 goals to his credit. On June 20, 2007, Stoke City signed him on a new deal. On August 30, 2008, Jonathan Parkin was signed by Preston North End on an emergency loan deal. He later made this move permanent by signing a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. He made his first appearance for the club the day he joined it, in the 2–1 win over Charlton Athletic.


Jonathan Parkin is known by his nickname "The Beast" because of his size and huge physical presence on the field.
