John Welsh is a football player who was born on January 10, 1984 in Liverpool. A midfielder, he started his international career with the England Under-20 team, which he also captained at a later stage. He was a vital member of the team at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship.
John Welsh was also part of the Under-21 team and played his first game for it against Holland at the KC stadium in February 2004. His netted his first goal in 2005 in a 2-0 win over Azerbaijan at Middlesbrough.
John Welsh started his football career at the age of 10 by joining Liverpool Football Club (FC). He moved up the ranks rapidly and even captained the Reserve Team. In the middle of 2001-02, he began training with the first team squad of the Liverpool at the Melwood ground. With a style resembling that of English footballer and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, it wasn’t long before John Welsh made his debut for Liverpool. It happened in a tie against Ipswich Town FC in a League Cup match on December 4, 2002 as a replacement for his teammate Vladimir Smicer in the 83rd minute. Since then, he has made numerous European appearances as a substitute. He played his first Premiership game on October 4, 2003 in a clash against Arsenal, replacing his teammate Salif Diao in the 82nd minute.
In August 2005, John Welsh went to Hull City FC on a long-term loan. Impressed with his performance, Hull City made the move permanent on January 4, 2006. He also led the Under-21 team of the Football League against Italy’s Serie B at the KC stadium.
On December 31, 2007, he accepted a deal offered by Chester City FC and made his debut for it the very next day against Grimsby Town. He remained in the starting line-up of the team for the rest of the month and made six appearances. With the expiry of his loan deal, John Welsh returned to Hull City.
