About John Terry


John Terry also known as “Bionic Man” is an English professional football player, born on December 7, 1980 in Barking. He lives with his wife Toni Poole and their twins, Georgie John and Summer Rose, at Oxshott, Surrey. His brother, Paul Terry, is also a professional footballer who plays for the lower division of Yeovil Town F.C.


John Terry made his international debut, when he was a part of the England national U-21 football team during 2000-02 and also scored his first goal for the country in the same season. In 2003, he was made the captain for the England team and led the team in the matches against Serbia and Montenegro. He played for his country at the Euro 2004 and won the PFA Player of the Year in 2004-05.


John Terry had the honor of wearing the captain’s armband in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Poland. He confirmed his ticket with the England team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and scored his first goal in a warm up match against Hungary, finishing in a 3-1 win. His team had the honor of winning the ‘FIFA World Cup squad of the tournament’ in 2006. In August 2006, John Terry was named the captain once again, and he went on to become the first player of the senior England team to score an international goal at the new Wembley Stadium. For three consecutive years, from 2005 to 2007, John Terry received the FIFPro World XI honors. He has been confirmed permanent captaincy for England in August 2008, and will also lead the team for qualifying the 2010 World Cup.


John Terry ventured into football through Senrab F.C., a Sunday League football team and moved on to play for Chelsea’s youth system at the age of 14. He played for its reserve team as a midfield stalwart, and went on to play in centre-back position. In October 1998, he made his debut for Chelsea, when he came in as a late substitute in a League cup tie with Aston Villa. Later, he went on loan to Nottingham Forest in 2000, to gain some experience.


During 2000-01 season, John Terry made 23 starts for Chelsea and was voted as the club’s ‘Player of the Year’. He was made the captain of Chelsea, for the first time, when he led the team against Charlton Atletic, in a League match later that year. John Terry was handed the captain’s armband in the 2003-04 season and his form continued in the 2004-05 season. In this season, Chelsea won the Premier League title, setting the record for best defense in Football League history, most clean sheets and most points amassed. He was named as ‘Best Defender’ at the 2005 UEFA Champions League. John Terry lead Chelsea as captain to the semi-finals of the 2006–2007 UEFA Champions League and drove the team to the first final of the FA Cup in May 2007. In July 2007, he signed a new five year contract with Chelsea, making him the highest-paid player in Premier League history.


John Terry is one of the faces of Umbro sportswear brand besides endorsing Samsung, Nationwide and Svenska Spel, a Swedish betting company. He has also signed a deal with Pro Evolution Soccer, a football gaming series. Apart from playing football, John Terry is fond of golf, swimming and squash.
