John Rathauser, Ph.D. has three decades of experience as a private practice psychologist specializing in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy for adolescents and adults, as well as couples therapy. Currently practicing in Kendall Park, New Jersey, John Rathauser has also held practices in California and Colorado. In addition to his experience in private practice, John Rathauser served as a consulting psychologist and a staff counselor at Corner House in Princeton, New Jersey, and acted as a field supervisor for the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. John Rathauser also spent over three years at the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health’s forensic psychology division. As a licensed psychologist for the conditional release program, John Rathauser evaluated offenders found not guilty by reason of insanity, offenders with mental disorders, and sex offenders with mental disorders.

 

A graduate of Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, John Rathauser relocated to Los Angeles, where he attended the California School of Professional Psychology and earned a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology. At the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in New York City, John Rathauser received training in group therapy, adult psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, and therapy techniques oriented toward children. John Rathauser has also studied Imago Relationship Therapy at the Institute for Relationship Therapy under the training of Harville Hendrix, Ph.D., the technique’s founder. For eight years he was a member of the Montreal Core Training group, studying Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy with Habib Davanloo, M.D., who for the past forty years has developed and trained students in his methodology and understanding of human behavior. Today, John Rathauser continues to attend Dr. Davanloo’s annual week long seminars and has also held various seminars himself, explaining the applications of the therapy and the underlying metapsychology of the unconscious that has been developed and articulated by Dr. Davanloo. These seminars have been offered over time at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, Portland, Maine, Little Hill Alina Lodge in N.J., and with some frequency in his private practice.
