About John Edward Anderson
Early Education
John Edward Anderson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A in September 1917. He studied for a Bachelor's degree in Business studies at UCLA from 1936 to 1940 and while there he played in the Hockey team, and joined the Beta Theta PI
Fraternity
By the time World War II had begun, Anderson had already earned his MBA and became a George Fisher Baker Scholar from Harvard Business School. Anderson then pursued a military career, signing up in the navy and joining the staff of an Admiral, during which time he also qualified as a CPA.
After the War had ended Anderson resumed his studies. He was an outstanding student and when he received his JD from Law School in 1950, he was offered a full time teaching position, a career with which he remained for the next 25 years.
Commercial & Business Ventures
As a founding partner, the law firm Kindel & Anderson was Anderson's first business venture in 1953. In 1956 he created Ace Beverage Company, claiming the sole rights for the distribution of Budweiser in the U.S.A. In 1980 he established a company; Topa Properties Ltd. which has a large amount of real estate holdings in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Amongst Anderson’s list of acclaims; he owns 370,000 sq m of commercial property and 4,500 units for residential purposes.
Anderson's name is also associated as being a trustee of Claremont McKenna College, a trustee and former president of the St. John's hospital and Health Center and a past chairman of the YMCA of the Los Angeles district. He has also lectured a number of courses at UCLA. The Anderson's School of Management is named after him and he also appears on the board of visitors list.
Personal History
In 1942, Anderson married Margaret Stewart, a fellow student from UCLA and together they had 5 children. His wife died from cancer and he remarried in 1967, to his present wife Marion. Some of Anderson's children are active in running the family businesses. His daughter Judith runs a ranch in Ojai, California, his other sons also control a beverage distribution and automation companies, and his son, John Jr., is executive vice president in Topa Equities Ltd.
Anderson's current residence is in Bel Air, Los Angeles, California. Today he has many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his current wife Marion is involved in the management of the Marion & John E. Anderson Foundation charity.
