About John Auerbach
Graduating magna cum laude from Brown University in 1980, Dr. John S. Auerbach attended the State University of New York at Buffalo. He earned his M.A. in Clinical Psychology in 1984 and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1988. While working toward his Ph.D., Dr. John S. Auerbach functioned as a Research Assistant and Psychodiagnostic Examiner at the Yale School of Medicine. During this period, he also served an internship in the area of psychosocial rehabilitation at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Haven, Connecticut. After completing his doctoral studies, Dr. John S. Auerbach held several professional and academic positions in clinical psychology prior to entering private practice. From 1988 to 1991, Dr. John S. Auerbach operated in two positions at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut. He served as the Acting Director for Students with Disabilities in 1989 and the Assistant Director of Counseling from 1988 to 1991. Dr. John S. Auerbach held numerous positions simultaneously between 1991 and 1995. He functioned as a Clinical Psychologist and Director of the Day Hospital at the Bronx James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in New York City. He also worked as a Psychological Testing Consultant at Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital in Hartford and at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut. Dr. John S. Auerbach became an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Department of Psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City in 1992. Dr. John S. Auerbach left Mount Sinai School in 1996 to become a member of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences of the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University. At present, he works as a Clinical Psychologist at Mountain Home Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he previously served as a Coordinator of the Post-Traumatic Stress Program. He opened his private practice in 1996. Dr. John S. Auerbach holds membership in the Appalachian Psychoanalytic Society, Rapaport-Klein Study Group, the Tennessee Psychological Association, and the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies. He is an honorary member of the American Psychoanalytic Association and a fellow of the Society for Personality Assessment.
