Joey O'Brien christened as Joseph Martin "Joey" O'Brien is an Irish footballer born on February 17, 1986 in Dublin. He plays in the midfielding position for the Bolton Wanderers club.
Joey O'Brien was selected for the Ireland national team in 2006, subsequent to which he made his debut for the team on March 1, 2006. He has also represented the Under (U)-21 national team in six matches and was the recipient of the Young International Award in the U-19 category.
Joey O'Brien had a passion for sports right from his school days in Drimnagh Castle. When he was in his sixth grade, he represented the school team in the hurling final event against St.Marks from Tallaght held at the Croke Park. The Drimnagh Castle school team performed well and eventually won the event. Joey O'Brien was also a prominent member of his secondary school football team and by his excellent playing skills set an example for all upcoming players.
In 2004, Joey O'Brien joined the Bolton Wanderers as a midfielder, but went on a loan to Sheffield Wednesday for a majority of the 2004-2005 season. During his tenure with the club, he made 15 appearances and scored two demanding goals. In honor of his contribution to the club, he was named the captain in his final game for the loan period.
After Joey O'Brien completed his loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday, he resumed position with to the Bolton Wanderers. His blistering performances for the club in their reserve games fetched him a place in the first team squad. Soon in May 2005, he made his Premiership debut for the Wanderers against Everton F.C. and till date has made 34 appearances. He earned the confidence of Gary Megson, manager of the Bolton Wanderers, who hopes that Joey O'Brien would become a top-class player.
