About Joe Chosney
Joe Chosney - Professional Summary:
As a Corporate Jet Pilot, Air Traffic Controller, Corporate Jet Instructor Pilot, and Senior IT Specialist with the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Joe Chosney clearly made good use of his innate technical ability to build a diverse and successful career across two different arenas. Mirroring the duality of his careers, Chosney studied biology at the collegiate level at Davis & Elkins College while at the same time finding the time to complete his Private Pilot’s Certificate. Knowing he wanted to share his love of flying with others, upon graduation he attended flight school, where he completed the training required to earn seven different ratings. With enthusiastic vigor and a born-to-fly mentality, he even became the youngest Citation Instructor in the United States at that time. Over his 26 years with the Treasury Department, Joe Chosney’s role as a Senior Technical Analyst revolved around the documentation and accurate testing of various treasury programs that were implemented on a national level. Possessing a can-do attitude dating back to his flight school days, Chosney completed over 40 different courses designed to improve the base technical skills required in his role. In recognition of his dedicated service and consistent quality of job performance, Joe Chosney won many different awards throughout his career with the department, such as the “IRS Commissioner’s Award,” the highest honor available to an IRS employee, and only awarded once in the course of a career. To earn this distinction, Chosney tackled a nationwide project management task that involved a national survey given to all IRS employees. He followed the project through to the end, and subsequently coordinated a convention in Houston, Texas, that concerned the process of disseminating other nationwide surveys with other agencies and companies, such as the U.S. Coast Guard, Allstate Insurance Company, and Texaco. Remaining active and engaged in his community after his 2010 retirement, Joe Chosney belongs to the Thompson Collectors Association, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the College Park Flying Club. Chosney still loves sharing his passion for flying with others and continues to work as a Flight Instructor. He also enjoys injecting a healthy amount of adventure into his extracurricular hobbies, and enjoys scuba diving and competitive shooting.
