About Jim Holden

 

Jim Holden - Professional Summary:     Over the course of his career in law and public policy, Jim Holden has served in a wide range of capacities in government, working with officials on a local, state, and federal level. Following receipt of his B.A. in Political Science from Indiana University Bloomington in 1997, Jim Holden accepted a position as a Congressional Aide to John Hostettler, United States Representative from the 8th District of Indiana. He helped to manage the representative’s field office and successful reelection campaign in 1998. At the end of this period, Jim Holden began his legal education at the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis from 1998 through 2001. In addition to his studies at the IU School of Law - Indianapolis, Mr. Holden worked as Assistant Director in the Indiana Lobby Registration Commission, further enriching his legal education through research in lobby law, as well as compliance audits and investigations. Graduating from law school in 2001 with his Juris Doctorate, Jim Holden went on to pass the Indiana Bar Examination and secure a position as Deputy Attorney General of Indiana. 

As a Deputy Attorney General for the Office of Attorney General Steve Carter, Jim Holden built a strong record in the prosecution of cases involving medical licensing, malpractice, and fraud, arguing hundreds of cases in during his time with the office. During this period, he received a commission in the United States Army Reserve as a Judge Advocate and serves as Trial Counsel for the 91st Legal Support Organization, as well as teaching at Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis, where he continues to serve as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science. After three years in the Indiana Attorney General’s Office, Jim Holden began a stint as Chief of Investigations for the Indiana Department of Insurance, managing the agency’s Enforcement Division from 2005 through 2006. 

In 2007, Mr. Holden became Chief Deputy Treasurer and General Counsel in the Indiana Treasurer of State’s Office, serving under Richard Mourdock. Today, Jim Holden plays a central role in the administration of the Indiana State Treasurer’s Office, sitting on various boards and commissions, overseeing the investment of a $7 billion fixed-income portfolio, and ensuring the smooth operation of an 18-person organization. Admitted to practice before the Indiana Supreme Court, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, Jim Holden lives in Zionsville, Indiana.
