Jermaine Jenas is an English football midfielder, who was born on February 18, 1983 in Nottingham. Nicknamed “JJ” and "da Jenius", he is famous for his "box-to-box" play and scoring ability from the midfield. He was educated at The Becket School in his birth place, Nottingham.
Jermaine Jenas has represented the England national team at all levels and made his debut for the senior team against Australia on February 12, 2003. He was chosen to be a part of the 2006 World Cup squad and his maiden goal for the senior team came from a friendly versus Switzerland at Wembley in February 2008.
Jermaine Jenas kicked his football career at Nottingham Forest in 1999 and progressed to the senior side of the club in 2001. He gave brilliant performances during 2001–02 and made 33 appearances scoring 4 goals that season. In February 2002, he moved onto Newcastle United for a fee of £5 million and impressed in the first season, which fetched him the 2002–03 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Young Player of the Year award. Jermaine Jenas was made vice-captain by manager, Graeme Souness, in the beginning of the 2004-05 season. His association with the club lasted for three seasons, during which he appeared in 152 matches contributing 12 goals.
Having signed for Tottenham Hotspur in August 2005, Jermaine Jenas was instrumental in the club’s promotion to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Cup by scoring seven goals. He played a crucial role for the Spurs in its fourth round Football Association (FA) Cup victory against Southend United. Jermaine Jenas scored the opening goals in the semifinal matches of the Carling Cup and assisted Jonathan Woodgate to score the winning goal in the club’s win over Chelsea to lift the Carling Cup of the 2007-08 season. He extended his contract with the Spurs for five years in August 2007 that would last until 2012. Encouraging words from the club’s new manager, Juande Ramos, made him perform better, and in July 2008, Jermaine Jenas extended his deal by another year. In the 2007-08 season, he won the League Cup Winners medal for his brilliant performances for the club. He was made vice-captain of the club that year and has represented the club in 88 games scoring 17 times as of August 2008.
