Texas Attorney Jefferson Rees has served as Vice President of Domestic Law at Pioneer Natural Resources Company in Irving since 2006. Pioneer responsibly produces gas and oil with sustainable results to meet energy demands worldwide and provide growth opportunities to business partners, employees, and the communities it serves. As Vice President of Domestic Law at this S&P 500 company, Jefferson Rees manages all of the daily operations as they pertain to legal matters. He negotiates new opportunities in the gas and oil sectors and drafts agreements for all transactions. Jefferson Rees handles contracts and agreements of all types, for tasks including master service, drilling, production sharing, data licensing, joint operation, marketing, farm-in and farm-out, lifting and balancing, and gas sales. In addition, Jefferson Rees reviews legal strategies and budgetary matters and manages all domestic litigation. He presents at quarterly Board of Directors meetings, interacts with Pioneer’s Management Committee, and oversees both in-house and outside counsel. Jefferson Rees came to Pioneer with a wealth of experience in the field. In 1988, he served as an Associate at Arthur Anderson & Company in Houston, where he worked in the tax division and concentrated on the oil and gas industries. In 1992, Jefferson Rees joined Brown, Herman, Scott, Dean & Miles in Fort Worth as a Litigation Associate, where he also focused on oil and gas litigation. From 1996 to 1998, he functioned as a Litigation Associate at Cowles & Thompson in Dallas, where he practiced in the complex commercial dispute area. In 1998, Jefferson Rees moved to ConocoPhillips Company in Houston to assume the position of Assistant Corporate Secretary and Senior Counsel. There, he was charged with myriad responsibilities; he managed a $500 million legal contingency reserve program, oversaw both in-house and outside attorneys; and handled all IP and antitrust litigation. He enjoyed eight years at ConocoPhillips before going to Pioneer. Jefferson Rees keeps up with news and developments in his field through various professional affiliations, including the State Bar of Texas, The General Counsel Forum, and the Oklahoma Bar Association.
