An Auburn University Tigers fan since childhood, Jay Jacobs has served his alma mater in an assortment of coaching, administrative and leadership roles since 1985. Starting as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach, Jacobs became a graduate assistant coach before working for three years as a Conditioning Coach. In 1991, Jacobs began a three-year position as Assistant Athletics Director, after which he was selected to become the university's Associate Athletics Director.
Jacobs was appointed Director of Athletics in 2004. During his tenure, Jacobs has led Auburn University to unprecedented athletic heights, academic success and fiscal strength. Jacobs has been at the forefront of numerous facility projects, such as the $92.5-million Auburn Arena, which opened prior to the start of the 2010 athletic season. Jacobs also led renovation plans at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which included revamped concession and restroom areas, a high-definition scoreboard, and an expanded plaza. Currently, a $17 million full-sized indoor multi-sport practice facility is under construction. These projects are in addition to new golf, tennis and soccer facilities completed under his watch.
Under Jacobs' leadership, Auburn University's athletic programs have received high rankings and have attained awards that further distinguished the school's reputation for athletic excellence. During the 2008-2009 season, more than 100 student-athletes achieved All-American Honors and 22 athletes were Southeastern Conference champions.
